9 January, 2007 : - - HALF MOON BAY, Calif., ? On Saturday, January 6, The 2007 Mavericks Surf Contest® waiting period was officially launched with a ceremonial paddle-out and prayer circle at the famed Mavericks surf break followed by a celebration. Greeted by sunny skies, Contest Director and surf legend, Jeff Clark welcomed the surfers and spectators, reminding the crowd of the great bond and respect competitors have for one another in the water. Surfer and Mavericks ambassador Grant Washburn spoke, echoing this sentiment, and prompted the Contest invitees, some family members, head judge Gary Linden, and a few alternates to paddle-out together and join hands in a prayer circle to ask for a safe and successful upcoming event.
