Pichilemu Chile World Cup Tow-In Champs
Presented by Movistar and Sony Ericson APT World Cup Tour
Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu Chile
15 April - 15 September 2008

APT/Chile, Punta de Lobos Tow-In Event Announces Extension of Holding Period and Additional Prize Money
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 July, 2008 : - -The Association of Professional Towsurfers, Inc. (APT) will be extending the holding period of the Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu Chile World Cup Tow-In Surfing Championship thru September 15th, 2008 and providing an additional $2,500.00 prize money to the event.
In the last three months, the event has gone to two major AMBER ALERTS with the intent to call the event on. However, Mother Nature made the final call for both alerts. Now the event organizers are hoping that with the additional time, the right swell will come.
"We are all truly excited about this event and we think that the extension is a great idea. The fact that so many people have worked long and hard in putting this event together only means that when the right swell does come, it will be insane." -Jamie Sterling/APT-Pro-Rated Competitor

This will be the first stop for the 2nd Annual 2008/2009 APT World Tour Tow-In Season and it is anticipated that this event will set the stage for the entire tour and the future of professional competitive towsurfing.

Eric Akiskalian, APT's Founder/President, Rodney ‘Handsome Bugga’ Kilborn, APT’s Global Vice President and Event Sanctioning Director, along with Chile’s APT Vice President and Event Logistic Manager, Rodrigio ‘Fletcha’ Escobar are excited and ready to make this event a huge success.
"We are not loosing faith in Mother Nature, not even for a second. We all believe this contest will happen and until it does, we will keep promoting this event and organizing other events for the future of the APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit."- Eric Akiskalian

Along with the main tow-in event, there will be a traditional big wave surfing contest to be held on the second day at the same location during the same swell. Then on the third and final day, there will be an expression session held for all competitors. The expression session will consist of tow-paddle and SUP. In total, there will be $37,500.00 in prize money to handed out. At then end of the three day event, there will also be an overall waterman/team champion crowned.
The top 16 teams that place in this event will then move on to compete in the second leg of the tour which will either be held in Portugal or Hawaii. Which ever location gets the first giant swell is where the event will happen. Holding periods for both these locations will start late in 2008.

Along with prize purse money, Mike Slattery of HighSurfRescue.com (HSA) will sponsor additional prizes by giving away a rescue board to the winning first place team and tow-in equipment for 2nd and 3rd place teams.

Competitors for this world-class event will consist of the top eight rated teams from the 2007 APT season along with Chile representation and professionally established big wave riders from Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti, Mexico, California, Brazil and Ireland.

Surfline.com the event’s forecast sponsor, will provide all the latest swell forecasts and assist the APT staff in making the right call along with Mother Nature. Currently, long range models are indicating a series of storm developments that may produce a powerful long interval swell during the last week in July. Surfline is keeping a close watch and will notify the event directors in the coming days as things progress.

Media outlets from around the globe are invited and encouraged to show up and document this first of a kind, specialty event that will host to a big wave tow-in contest, traditional big wave surfing contest and an expression session.
