PADDLE OUT, PRAYER AND OPENING CEREMONY CELEBRATION TO KICK OFF
THE 2007 MAVERICKS SURF CONTEST® PRESENTED BY ASK.COM®
THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 6
WHAT: On Monday, January 1, The 2007 Mavericks Surf Contest® presented by Ask.com® holding period officially commenced. To celebrate on Saturday, January 6, 2007 a ceremonial prayer and paddle-out followed by the Opening Ceremony kick-off celebration will take place in Half Moon Bay. Surfers will convene at the Mavericks beach and, in a symbolic tradition rooted in Hawaiian culture, paddle-out from the beach, form a circle, join hands and pray for a safe and successful event. Afterwards, the surfers and their families will join together for a private celebration where Contest details, heat selections, and partnership announcements will be discussed. Due to space constraints, only media and invited guests may attend the festivities. Food and beverages will be provided courtesy of Derek Burns – Knives and Fire Catering.

• This year’s invited attendees include former Mavericks winners and veterans: Grant “Twiggy” Baker, Josh Loya, Peter Mel, Tyler Smith, and Darryl “ Flea” Virostko. VIPs and media warmly invited to attend.
WHY: The Opening Ceremony will kick-off the start of the 2007 Contest season and will also be the first chance to get one-on-one interviews with the invitees, receive details on competitor heat selection, sponsors and other important contest information.
