Dear Friends,

I met Sally and Elizabeth up at Mavericks many years ago in Half Moon Bay, California. Elizabeth was on the cliff filming and Sally needed to get out on the water, I offered to help out the sistahs, especially since it involved Sarah Gerhardt the subject in their film.

Sally packed her waterproof bag, her old style film camera (with no waterproof bag) and off we went time after time! It was great to get Sally out there filming Sarah, especially since no other women had been out in the break before with the exception of Sarah and myself.

Sarah's story is one of tragedy, loss and renewal, a very touching film. It is no wonder it is gathering awards.

We are proud of Sarah, her husband Mike and their family.

We sure had fun, four women at Mav's on a mission, and here is Sarah's story:

Hard to believe that it’s fall and Maverick’s has already broke again. Even more amazing is that October marks a year since One Winter Story’s world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival. Since then, the film has been an official selection at more than 12 film festivals around the world, and has received several awards and nominations including winning the prestigious le Prix de l'Aileron du Meilleur Film de Surf 2007 (Grand Prize: Best Surf Film of 2007) at the International Surf Film Festival du St. Jean de Luz, France; and nominations for Best Biography Film; Best Cinematography; and Best Original Score at the 2007 X-Dance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film was also chosen by Variety Magazine as one of the Highlight Films of the 2007 Maui Film Festival and Monteal’s Le Presse Newspaper picked the film as one of their hightlights at the 2007 International Adventure Sports Film Festival of Canada.

FILMMAKER NEWS
Now that Frank Films has weathered the five year journey of One Winter Story and had a bit of a filmmaking rest, Sally & Elizabeth have again picked up their cameras and are beginning production on two new water related films – watch out for their latest attack by sea! They plan to release both films by the end of 2008. Also on the agenda for the New Year: a One Winter Story theatrical tour! We'll keep you posted as the tour unfolds.

You’ll be hearing from us again before the end of the year. Much Aloha and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
